Join Us for the Lottery!

Our 2024-25 lottery for enrollment will be held on April 9, 2024 at 3:45pm.

The lottery will be live cast and recorded on Zoom at the link below. Families will be notified of the status of their application no later than 5 pm on the day of the lottery.

Lottery Information

Commons accepts applications year round and offers seats to applicants in the April prior to a child attending. At that time each year, if there are more applicants than available seats, a public, random lottery for each grade level will be executed according to the requirements and standards outlined in Education Law §2854(2)(B). If a lottery does occur, we will notify the public.

Applicants will be notified with results via their SchoolMint accounts immediately following the lottery. Applicants are either accepted at that time, or placed on the waiting list in the order they were drawn in the lottery.

Our lottery is conducted with preferences given in this order:

  1. Returning students

  2. Siblings of currently enrolled students

  3. Children of faculty and staff (up to 15% of available seats)

  4. Residents of Buffalo City School District

  5. Residents of districts outside Buffalo

If your child is on the waitlist, there is still a possibility of being offered a seat. Please look out for a communication from the school in the event that a seat becomes available!

However, to apply for a different grade level, applicants must reapply as waitlists do not roll over from one year to the next.

Backfill Policy

There may be times when students withdraw from school either during, or at the end of the school year. The school will backfill vacated seats up through the end of the first semester (approximately February 1st) after which time it reserves the right to only accept new students for the following academic year.
